This page outlines the editing process. Once you have confirmed your order and submitted your payment via bank transfer, PayPal or Upwork, your project will be scheduled according to the agreed timeline.
Editing Process: Phase 1 – Initial Check
Phase 1 of our editing process involves your editor manually working through the entire manuscript looking only at spelling, grammar and punctuation, and major formatting issues that will slow down the editing process. This usually takes 3 days to a week.
Editing Process: Phase 2 – Line Editing
This is the most important job of the editor. During this process, we process each part of every sentence in your manuscript individually. Unless a sentence makes complete sense all on its own, it needs to be edited. However, that’s not all we check. We check for:
- Check general grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction, tenses, prepositions, number, and concord.
- Style and consistency.
- Common errors – apostrophe and quotation marks, run-on sentences, word use errors, and other issues that affect readability.
It is our job to ensure that what you are trying to communicate meets your readers’ understanding without pesky language barriers. Along the way, we always pick up bad habits, which writers and beta readers tend to miss – it’s natural for these errors to slip in unnoticed as it stems from our subconscious communication habits.
Line edits can take as long as an hour per 500 words, as each sentence needs to be read once to be understood and repaired. We need to then read it a second time to see how it reads as a standalone sentence before it can be read a third time in context of the current and the next paragraph to ensure the overall flow is correct.
Editing Process: Phase 3 – Final Check
During this phase, we create a copy of your manuscript, and accept all the changes. We then complete a final check of the entire manuscript, as errors sometimes creep in with the Track Changes conversion. This can take up to 2 days before we deliver both copies to you. You can use the copy that contains the changes as reference, but we ask that you please make additional edits or changes on the copy without any mark-ups.
Editing Process: Phase 4 – Completion
During this phase of the editing process, we are available to answer your questions via email. If there is anything you are unsure of, please email us. If there’s something you are unhappy with, we will gladly repair it during phase 4.
The onus rests upon the author to do final check to ensure the manuscript meets all his / her requirements before publishing.
